Tamil Nadu Leads Again: First with Tax Stamps, Now QR Buy-Back Schemes

The Excise Department of Tamil Nadu, India, has issued a tender for a digital platform and unique QR code stickers to support a buy-back scheme for empty liquor containers. The codes will be affixed to liquor, beer, and wine containers sold through state-run retail outlets across Tamil Nadu. These outlets (known as TASMAC – Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation – outlets) play a central role in the legal sale of alcohol in the state, given that Tamil Nadu maintains a monopoly on such sales.

Pakistan Finalises Major Track and Trace Agreement…Only to Have it Stayed in Court

In March, the consortium of Authentix, Inc, MITAS Corporation and AJCL Private Limited finalised a licence agreement with the Pakistan Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to implement a track and trace system on tobacco, cement, sugar and fertiliser. The agreement covered an initial five-year term, with a three-year extension option.

Perum Peruri Responds to TSTN Article re Nepal Tender

In the July issue of Tax Stamp & Traceability News™ (TSTN), we referred to a news article in The Kathmandu Post, claiming that Perum Peruri, which had been selected in March to supply tobacco and alcohol tax stamps to Nepal’s Inland Revenue Department (IRD), had failed to show up for the signing of the contract for the stamps, and that the IRD had subsequently initiated legal action against the company.

Nepal Tax Stamp Provider Fails to Sign Contract

The Indonesian company Perum Peruri, which was selected in March to supply tobacco and alcohol tax stamps to Nepal’s Inland Revenue Department (IRD), has failed to show up for the signing of the contract for the stamps, reports The Kathmandu Post. This situation is made all the more strange considering Perum Peruri’s longstanding relationship with the department.
