Perum Peruri Responds to TSTN Article re Nepal Tender

In the July issue of Tax Stamp & Traceability News (TSTN), we referred to a news article in The Kathmandu Post, claiming that Perum Peruri, which had been selected in March to supply tobacco and alcohol tax stamps to Nepal’s Inland Revenue Department (IRD), had failed to show up for the signing of the contract for the stamps, and that the IRD had subsequently initiated legal action against the company.

In response to the article, Perum Peruri issued a statement to the TSTN editor advising that ‘the withdrawal of Peruri from the tender was caused by the unsuccessful negotiation between Peruri and IRD following the proposal of force majeure submitted by Peruri regarding the global pandemic COVID-19 that has affected all institutions throughout the world as well as Peruri.’ Fajar Rizki, Director of Business Development at Peruri added: ‘we should also inform you that for the last few years, Peruri and IRD have actually been maintaining a very good cooperation.

‘However, it is very common in business that such cooperation will not happen when one party is not capable of fulfilling a commitment because of unexpected circumstances, especially those caused by a global pandemic like COVID-19.

‘We believed that IRD would understand our case, however our organisation is also subject to the tender regulation which had been agreed. We do hope that the fruitful cooperation between Peruri and IRD will still be maintained in the future.’
