NAGRAVISION and Harmonic Launch Watermarking-as-a-Service for Live Events
NAGRAVISION, a leading independent provider of content protection and media entertainment solutions, has launched a fully managed, event-based watermarking-as-a-service solution with Harmonic, a video delivery technology company.
The service is designed to help broadcasters and streaming platforms protect premium live content, particularly sports and entertainment, against unauthorised redistribution. Rather than requiring customers to install and operate complex forensic watermarking systems themselves, the new offering provides a turnkey, cloud-based service that can be activated for individual events.
The announcement reflects the growing challenge of content fragmentation, where the same live event may be distributed simultaneously across multiple platforms, devices and streaming services. Instead of relying solely on traditional cable or satellite channels, rights holders increasingly deliver content through OTT (over-the-top) services – video streamed directly over the internet to smart TVs, smartphones and connected devices. While this broadens audience reach, it also creates more opportunities for piracy.
