Chandigarh Broadens Sights with Extensive Track & Trace System

The Department of Excise & Taxation of Chandigarh (one of 36 states in India) has invited an expression of interest (EOI) for the selection of a technology for a tax stamp and end-to-end track and trace system on alcohol products.

The EOI is intended to provide interested parties with relevant information on the project and invite their feedback and proposals, some of which may then feed into an eventual RFP (request for proposal).

The EOI document describes the goal of the track and trace system as preventing excise duty evasion on spirits, wine and beer produced in the state, as well as monitoring, in real-time, the production and movement of these products through the supply chain, up to and including the retailer.

The tax stamps required under the new system will replace the existing polyester-based holographic stamps – or Excise Adhesive Label (EAL), as they are commonly known in India. These stamps are currently supplied by Manipal Technologies, and there is no track and trace system in operation at present.
