Authentic Italian Wine Displays the Tricolour of Patriotism

From April 2025, every bottle of Italy’s finest DOCG (Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita) and DOC (Denominazione di Origine Controllata) wine features a new state seal adorned with the national flag. The tricolour flag is displayed next to the emblem of the Italian Republic, transforming the seal into a symbol of patriotism as well as a designation of origin.

The serialised seal is designed and produced by the Italian state printing works Istituto Poligrafico e Zecca dello Stato (IPZS), and incorporates security features similar to those used in banknotes, as well as a QR code.

By scanning the QR code, users can quickly access information regarding the traceability and anticounterfeiting measures associated with the product. This process is enabled through a secure platform developed and managed by IPZS, at no additional cost to producers. The platform consolidates all data from various stakeholders in the supply chain, including certification bodies, protection consortia, and producers.
