At Authentication & Brand News™, we regularly track new government regulations and initiatives that may impact authentication. For example, in July, we reported on the California watermarking standards bill for differentiating AI-generated from human-generated content, as well as the EU adoption of a product sustainability rule directing the establishment of digital product passports. This month, four new regulations have caught our attention.

EU blockchain goes live

On 20 June, the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) celebrated the go-live of the EBSI-ELSA 1 blockchain project, during an event 2 attended by 100 external participants and three European Commission directorates-general involved in the initiative: DG CNECT (the coordinating body acting as solution provider), DG DIGIT (the service provider in charge of technical implementation), and DG GROW.

During the event, two recently released cornerstone modules were presented:

1.The digital twin creation module, enabling brand owners to issue digital credentials of physical products bearing an EUIPO trademark.
