Luminescence to Protect Deposit Return Revenue in Türkiye
In a LinkedIn post, Luminescence Sun Chemical Security (LSCS) has announced it is a major contributor to protecting the revenue of Türkiye’s deposit return scheme (DRS) on single-use beverage containers, through its security solutions and the logistical support of Sun Chemical Türkiye.
After years of preparation, the country is set to launch the scheme as part of the Zero Waste Project led by First Lady Emine Erdoğan. The government plans to roll out a pilot programme in the province of Sakarya before implementing it nationwide by the end of 2025.
By reintegrating recyclable materials into the beverage container production cycle, the system is expected to contribute approximately €520 million to the Turkish economy each year, as well as cut landfill waste and litter by over 85%.
More than 20 billion single-use beverage cans and bottles will be securely marked and returned yearly via reverse vending machines (machines that accept used containers in exchange for a refund or deposit return). This means Türkiye will be running one of the largest volume deposit schemes in the world.
