De La Rue Exits Authentication Business
Following De La Rue’s announcement, a few months ago, that it was in discussions with several parties interested in acquiring one or both of its business divisions – Authentication and Currency – the company has now entered into a definitive agreement for the sale of its Authentication division to Crane NXT, for £300 million.
In 2023-24, De La Rue Authentication generated £102.9 million in revenue, demonstrating good growth versus the previous year and making it the group’s fastest growing division.
De La Rue expects its Authentication division to continue growing, with projected revenues from existing contracts surpassing £350 million over the next three years. Among these is a brand protection contract with Microsoft, which has been renewed until 2029.
The company’s Authentication portfolio comprises surface-relief microstructures and embossed and Lippmann holographic technologies, as well as holographic laminates for passport bio-data pages, and track and trace systems for supply chain protection.
