Ferrari Rewards Public for Reporting Fakes
Ferrari has launched a public reward scheme to crack down on counterfeit products carrying its iconic branding. The scheme involves offering Ferrari gifts to individuals who report products that may be counterfeit or in violation of Ferrari trademarks.
The company has set up a web page with all the specifics of this new initiative. Anyone who thinks they have identified an infringing product for sale can submit a report via an online form.
Ferrari says it will then conduct an investigation based on the report. If it finds the report refers to an infringement that it was not already aware of, it will reward the person submitting the report with a Ferrari gift item.
To submit an eligible report, the sender must include personal details, information on the location where they found the product, photos of the product, a description of why they think it is counterfeit, and total number of items involved.
However, at no point does Ferrari request the actual product to be sent to its office for physical inspection, which implies that its investigation is based solely on photos and descriptions. Also, no reference is made to any security features on the product that would have allowed the person sending in the report to authenticate the product, in situ, with more certainty.
Ferrari says the programme is scheduled to run indefinitely, but only time will tell if it actually makes a dent in the number of fake Ferrari products on the market. Perhaps its success will depend on just how attractive the rewards are.
