DSG-USA Introduces Holographic Fingerprint Labels on Engine Components

DSG-USA, a global supplier of premium aftermarket engine components for heavy-duty and industrial applications (such as Caterpillar® earthmoving equipment) has launched a new security label to safeguard its products against counterfeiting and grey-market diversion.

At the core of the solution is Authentic Vision’s holographic fingerprint technology, which is based on microscopic variations in the surface relief of each hologram applied to each label. These naturally occurring, random microstructures affect the way light is diffracted, producing a distinctive optical pattern.

This pattern can be captured by a smartphone camera and – using a special app created by Authentic Vision – compared with a reference template stored in a database. The holographic fingerprint therefore acts as a physically unique optical signature embedded in a visible security element.

The label also incorporates a QR code, enabling the smartphone to simultaneously identify the specific product the label is attached to and retrieve its associated authentication data.
