Calling All Revenue Authorities: Mark Your Diaries for ITSA Webinar
The International Tax Stamp Association (ITSA) is pleased to announce it will be hosting a webinar on Wednesday 24 September, titled ‘Tax Stamp and Traceability Systems on Excisable Products: What Works, What Fails, What’s Ahead’.
ITSA’s guest speaker will be Hana Ross from the University of Cape Town, South Africa, and the Vienna Institute for International Economic Studies.
Dr Ross has over 25 years’ experience conducting studies on the economic impact of excise tax policies and other interventions for reducing consumption of tobacco, alcohol, and sugar sweetened beverages. She specialises in issues related to illicit trade in tobacco and alcohol, including measuring the size of tax gaps and developing strategies to control illegal cigarette and alcohol markets. Dr Ross consults for the World Bank.
The webinar will cover the importance of material security features and the weaknesses of digital only solutions, highlighting the vulnerability of such solutions to fraud. It will also assess the pros and cons of adding digital track and trace mechanisms involving the whole value chain on top of a modern tax stamp programme.
