Septillion Secures Funding for Electronics Traceability

Septillion Technologies, based in Scotland, has secured funding from Scottish Enterprise – the country’s economic development agency – to advance blockchain-enabled traceability in the electronics manufacturing industry.

The funding will accelerate the development and deployment of a blockchain-based provenance system in partnership with Stewart Technology, a leading Scottish contract electronics manufacturer.

Septillion’s solution will be the first blockchain platform to fully comply with the traceability requirements of IPC-1782, an international standard specific to electronics. While ISO/ IEC standards set broad frameworks and management principles for this sector, the IPC defines how to implement these frameworks and principles at a granular, operational level.

The IPC defines four critical tracking events to ensure verifiable, tamperproof records across the entire product lifecycle:

1.Material packing: this is the starting point of traceability, when a unique identifier is applied to packaged electronics such as component reels, printed circuit board panels, or subassemblies.

2.Material package logistics: this event covers all logistics movements of the electronics between locations – either within the factory, between facilities, or across the supply chain.
