Malawi Benchmarks Uganda’s Tax Stamps
In March, the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) hosted an eight-member delegation from Malawi’s tax authority, for a fiveday tax stamp benchmarking visit.
The visit aimed to provide insights into the implementation, monitoring, and enforcement of Uganda’s tax stamp, tracing, and reporting system, as Malawi prepares to adopt a similar system. Both countries share the same solution provider: SICPA.
Bichetero Emmanuel, Assistant Commissioner of the URA Tax Academy – the educational and training arm of the URA – highlighted the effectiveness of the system in closing revenue gaps.
‘We believe our digital tracking solutions have been instrumental in improving tax compliance and revenue collection, and we are eager to share our experiences with our counterparts in Malawi,’ he said.
The delegation visited SICPA Uganda, where Country Manager Suzan Mweheire Kitariko hosted them on a tour of the tax stamp warehouse and fuel marking site (Uganda also has a fuel marking system in place since 2008).
