Digital Printing, Metallisation, Interactivity… All in One Pass

Xeikon, a provider of digital printing presses, has partnered with KURZ and SCRIBOS (part of the KURZ group) to offer a solution that enables digital label printers to combine variable metallic elements, serialised QR codes with embedded copy- protection patterns, and interactive features… all in a single printing pass.

The solution leverages the capabilities of Xeikon’s TITON dry toner printing and X-800 digital front-end system for automated workflow, KURZ’ DIGITAL METAL® module, and SCRIBOS’ ValiGate® copy-protection feature and 360 digital cloud platform.

‘The secondary level of copy protection embedded in the QR codes relies on very intricate details, which can only be achieved with toner digital printing,’ commented Dr Steffen Scheibenstock, Head of Digital Business Development at SCRIBOS.

After verifying the ValiGate copy protection with a smartphone, the user is taken to a landing page displaying a distribution of symbols, resembling a slot machine game. By comparing these symbols with the ones on the product, the user engages in a secure two-factor authentication process.
