Security for Silicone Sealants

Building on recent search-and-seizure operations in South Africa to crack down on counterfeits of its Reinzosil silicone sealant for automotive components, Victor Reinz® (a Dana brand) has now introduced high-security ‘Dana Secure’ labels on its products, accompanied by a customer awareness campaign.

The labels, developed in collaboration with Authentic Vision, are equipped with a serialised QR code integrated with a unique holographic fingerprint, to form a dual-layered authentication system.

When a user scans the QR code with a smartphone, equipped with a dedicated Dana Secure app, the system simultaneously examines the hologram’s optical fingerprint using the smartphone camera. The app then leverages computer vision and pattern recognition algorithms to compare the captured holographic fingerprint with the data stored in Victor Reinz’s secure database, in order to confirm the product’s authenticity.

If both the QR code and holographic fingerprint match the database, the app confirms the product’s authenticity. Any inconsistency – such as an invalid QR code or a mismatched holographic fingerprint – results in a failed authentication.
