IDEMIA Unveils IDQR: Laser- Engraved QR Code Security
At High Security Printing™ Asia, held in Thailand, IDEMIA Smart Identity launched a new security feature called IDQR.
IDQR is a laser-engraved QR code permanently embedded within a polycarbonate document during the personalisation process. The code includes a full-colour photo of the identity document holder and biographical information. The issuing country digitally signs the full dataset, guaranteeing data integrity and preventing any unauthorised changes or reproduction of the QR code.
With IDQR, document holders can verify their identity using a standard smartphone, in order to access public or private eServices. After scanning the front and back of their ID document containing the IDQR, they complete a biometric selfie check to confirm that their face matches the portrait stored in the QR code.
IDQR is also useful for in-person document authentication. An agent can verify and authenticate the document, confirm the integrity of the QR code’s data, and crossreference it with the human-readable information on the card.
