Kyrgyzstan Plans to Introduce Fuel Marking
From 1 June 2024, Kyrgyzstan plans to introduce mandatory marking on all types of fuel products. In particular, it is looking to mark gasoline and diesel fuel – sold exclusively at filling stations – with irremovable molecular markers.
While excise tax on petroleum products imported from Eurasian Economic Union countries has been falling in recent years, the number of cars imported into Kyrgyzstan was 10 times higher in 2023 than in 2021.
‘In addition, according to the National Statistical Committee of the Kyrgyz Republic, in 2023, economic growth reached 4.4%, construction increased by 8%, agriculture by 7.3%, and wholesale and retail trade by 7.5%,’ said the Ministry of Economy and Commerce. Furthermore, the Ministry reported that at least 9,599 litres of fuel and lubricants had been withdrawn from illegal sale in 2023.
‘Considering all this, we note the presence of a high shadow component in the fuel and lubricants market. For its legalisation and introduction of advanced methods of administration, we consider it advisable to introduce marking,’ said the Ministry.
