NFC in the Circular Economy

The NFC Forum, the leading standards body for near field communication (NFC) technology, has organised a 50-minute webinar titled ‘The Circular Economy Redefined – NFC & the Digital Product Passport’ , scheduled for 5 December 2023.

The webinar will feature experts from various organisations and companies discussing the leveraging of NFC – a technology ingrained in billions of devices worldwide – to amplify the EU’s Digital Product Passport (DPP), extend its reach, ensure data authenticity, and promote a global circular economy.

The panellists include:

• Dr Susanne Guth-Orlowski – Technical Advisor, Global Battery Alliance and Managing Director, 4TheRecord.io (a technology startup offering information about the environmental footprint of a product).

• Kamila Kocia – Market Development Manager Digital Solutions, Avery Dennison and CIRPASS (a collaborative initiative to prepare the ground for the piloting and deployment of the DPP).

• Dr Jeannot Schroeder – Co- Founder, PositiveImpaKT (a consulting company helping organisations, businesses and individuals move towards a circular economy).

• Preeti Ohri Khemani – Infineon Technologies and Chair of NFC Forum.

• Pierre Muller – RFID Business Unit Manager, EM Microelectronic-Marin.

• Mike McCamon – Executive Director, NFC Forum.

Established in 2004, the NFC Forum is a non-profit industry association comprising leading mobile communications, semiconductor, and consumer electronics companies. The Forum aims to advance NFC technology by developing specifications, ensuring interoperability among devices and services, and educating the market.

In July 2023, the forum unveiled its Technology Roadmap outlining essential plans and research efforts over next two to five years.
