Tax Stamp Forum to Showcase Latest Solutions for Authentication and Traceability

Solution providers, experts, and revenue authorities from around the world have confirmed their speaking slot at Reconnaissance International’s Tax Stamp & Traceability Forum™, taking place in Tbilisi, Georgia from 2-4 October 2023.

Below are some of the technology papers and case studies that will be presented.

OpSec Security will describe the challenges faced with planning, developing, and implementing a complete authentication and traceability solution for cigarettes in Lebanon.

SICPA will present a track and trace solution that prints unique codes directly on beer and non-alcoholic beverages, using security inks – a solution used by revenue authorities in over a dozen countries.

Quantum Base will present Optical Q-ID®, the world’s first quantum security technology, composed of unique quantum signatures that can be read by a smartphone, with no additional hardware.

HP Indigo Secure will show us how product labels/decoration can be used to create a single, harmonised, serialisation and authentication solution for brand protection and tax collection.

Thymaris will talk about its AMACENA® Secure product authentication technology for high-volume security printing. The technology is currently being used for a large-scale tax stamp programme, and also comprises a dashboard for data queries and analysis of counterfeit codes found in the market. The paper will describe the different types of counterfeits found and the different levels of difficulty in detecting counterfeits.

Advanced Track & Trace will describe how the introduction of health passes during the pandemic popularised the use of 2D barcodes, and how the upcoming implementation of the GS1 Digital Link will further accelerate this trend. The EU, meanwhile, will progressively implement the Digital Product Passport, encouraging smartphone users to interpret 2D codes on various products.

However, the act of scanning a seemingly legitimate 2D code can lead to significant damage as a result of substitution fraud. Advanced Track & Trace will describe how this problem can be resolved with a user-centric cybersecurity approach for machine-readable codes on tax stamps, documents, and products.

The Forum will also include a panel discussion on ‘How do Inspectors Really Authenticate Tax Stamps?’ Chaired by Francisco Mandiola of FMA Secure, with panellists from tax and customs authorities, the panel will discuss what really happens in the field in terms of customs and law enforcement inspection techniques.

The conference will be accompanied by an exhibition of over 20 booths, where providers of solutions for tax stamps, track and trace systems, and product authentication will demonstrate their technologies.
