Document Checking in Challenging Environments
Each year, the authentication industry produces tens of millions of documents that require fast and reliable examination to confirm their authenticity. Doculus Lumus® is a mobile document checking device from charismaTec that was developed specifically for use in the often challenging environments of document checking for border management, law enforcement, security printing and banking.
charismaTec was founded in May 2010 by IT graduates Sandra Slavinec and Dieter Lutzmayr, with the goal of providing innovative and niche-market RFID applications, IT services and automation technology solutions. With the support of Austrian police document expert Matthias Draxler, the company has developed Doculus Lumus using locally sourced components and manufacturing.
Doculus Lumus works with two AAA batteries (also rechargeable batteries), or a chargeable lithium-ion battery, making it highly flexible for fieldwork, and has robust housing that has been drop tested to 1.5m. It comes standard with 15x or 22x magnification, four white incident light LEDs (full and rotating), four strong UV LEDs at 365nm, eight LEDs for automatic or manual rotating oblique light, and torchlight mode.
Since early 2021, the company has been working to make the device customisable to the particular needs of customers, with optional modules like a front UV torch at 365nm, an RFID ICAO quick check for ePassports, an IR laser at 980nm for antiStokes particles, an IR LED at 870nm, and four UVC LEDs to see 254nm features.
With an examination time of 30 seconds, the company has proven that Doculus Lumus meets the demanding requirements of fast document checking on the frontline. Over 15,000 devices have been sold for use in more than 40 countries.
