ODDS Conference – Call for Papers

The call for papers for Optical & Digital Document Security™ (ODDS) conference, the new security technology ‘super-event’, is now available from the event website. Organised by Reconnaissance International, this conference – to be held in Vienna, Austria, 17-19 January 2022 – brings together Reconnaissance’s two successful technical conferences to cover the key security and protection topics that have become more pressing in our digital age.

The Optical Document Security™ conference (ODS), held every two years since 1996, is established as a highly respected technical event, which has seen the first public announcement of many now common optical security features. Digital Document Security™ (DDS), a spin-off event, was quickly recognised as an essential bridge between the physical and digital ‘document’ security worlds.

In combining the two events, Reconnaissance is recognising that the physical – or tangible – document and digital worlds can no longer be treated separately. Will the digitisation of transactions, and product and identity verification, supplant the well-recognised physical documents that have traditionally been used or will they co-exist in a symbiotic relationship?

This new event will focus on the why and how of this question and the critical need to achieve the high levels of security and data protection in the digital domain as have been achieved in the physical domain.

People involved in the digital transaction, identity, and authentication communities, as well as specifiers, designers, producers, and issuers of secure documents, will find ODDS a valuable forum to explain, learn, network and explore possibilities.

The presentations at the ODDS conference will be selected by a committee of specialists and experts to ensure that this merged conference maintains the high quality that has made ODS and DDS such respected events. Conference Chairman will be Ian Lancaster, co-founder and former CEO of Reconnaissance, who has been involved with ODS from its beginnings, serving as Chairman since 2016, as well as chairing the DDS conference.

The call for papers for ODDS defines optical, digital and hybrid as the categories for papers. Sample topics identified for each category, in that order, include new optical technologies and materials; optical security in the point-of-sale environment; serialisation, coding and unique identifiers; and convenience versus security. These are among the 21 topics that the committee has identified, but the call also invites papers on any relevant topic.

The deadline for proposals for presentations is 31 July, to allow the committee time to thoroughly review them. Some presentation slots will, however, be held open until the last minute, to ensure that the conference is relevant and current in this fast-moving field of product and identity verification and personal financial management on smartphones and other devices.
