Philippines Fuel Marking Programme Hits 10 Billion Litres
In July, the Philippines government reached a milestone in its fuel marking programme when it surpassed 10 billion litres of fuel marked, according to a BusinessWorld article.
In a report released by Department of Finance (DoF) Secretary Carlos G Dominguez III, the Bureau of Customs and Bureau of Internal Revenue reached the 10 billion litre level in the space of 10 months, given that the marking began in September last year.
The DoF has estimated that the government can earn P20 billion ($405 million) in additional revenue this year from the programme and that prior to the programme’s implementation, the country was losing between P20 billion and P40 billion per year to fuel smuggling.
The contract for the programme was awarded in 2018 to the joint venture of SICPA and SGS Philippines by the Bureau of Customs to provide molecular fuel markers and field monitoring services. The marker is injected into all imported, manufactured and refined fuel products such as gasoline, diesel and kerosene.
