Chile new chief

In March, a week before the inauguration of José Antonio Kast’s presidential administration in Chile, Jorge Trujillo was appointed director of the country’s tax authority, Servicio de Impuestos Internos (SII).

Mr Trujillo holds a degree in industrial civil engineering from the University of Chile and a master’s degree in tax administration and public finance from Spain’s Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia. His appointment is widely seen as a positive development, particularly given the central role of SII in delivering the ambitious economic reform programme announced by President Kast and his finance minister, Jorge Quiroz.

While Mr Trujillo has spent several years as a tax consultant working with organisations such as the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund, and the Inter-American Development Bank, he also brings extensive institutional experience from within the SII itself. Prior to moving into the private sector, he served as National Deputy Director of Tax Audit, followed by six years as Director of Large Taxpayers.
