Change of Price and Colour for Portugal’s Cigarette Stamps

The Portuguese government has announced a 2% increase in the price that tobacco companies will need to pay for tax stamps in 2026, alongside a change in the stamps’ background colour.

According to an official decree signed by the Secretary of State for Fiscal Affairs, Cláudia Reis Duarte, the cost of nonadhesive stamps will rise from €0.03751 to €0.03835.

The background colour of the stamps changes each year as a means of identification. In 2020 the stamps were blue, in 2021 they were magenta, in 2023 brown, in 2024 orange, and in 2025 green. For the 2026 fiscal year, the official background colour will be bordeaux.

The stamps are produced by Imprensa Nacional Casa da Moeda (the Portuguese Mint and Official Printing Office).
