15 Years and Counting – Part 2
It was 15 years ago, in July 2009, that the very first Tax Stamp News™ (now called Tax Stamp & Traceability News™) was published. To mark the occasion, we thought it would be interesting to go back in time, to the main news items covered by the newsletter between 2009 and today, and how they have developed over this period.
We’ve split the coverage into groups of three years per issue, starting with 20092011 in the July edition. This month, we turn our attention to 2012-2014.
2012
The Philippines Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) is set to open bidding for a cigarette tax stamp system, a controversial project that has been several years in the making. The bidding follows the government’s decision to no longer accept build-operate-transfer (BOT) proposals for tax stamps, since BOT is considered more suited to infrastructure projects like roads than confidential projects like tax remediation schemes.
