DNA for Cotton – Blockchain for Soybeans
Haelixa and Italy’s leading fashion retailer OVS have renewed their cotton traceability partnership for a second year. Using Haelixa’s DNA marker technology, cotton grown in Italy is marked at the gin, close to the farm.
Simone Colombo, OVS’s Head of Corporate Sustainability, revealed that in 2024, the company aims to source 5% of its cotton from Italian farms. This collaboration is part of OVS’s broader strategy to enhance social and environmental responsibility across its supply chain.
In another traceability development, Bunge Global and Bangkok Produce Merchandising (BKP), a subsidiary of CP Foods, have tested a blockchain-based traceability platform for endtoend traceability. Under this initiative, they tracked three shipments totalling 185,000 tonnes of deforestation-free soybean meal from Brazil to Thailand, with an additional 180,000 tonnes shipped in July.
BKP CEO Paisarn Kruawongvanich highlighted this milestone for CP Foods’ goal of achieving 100% deforestationfree supply chains by 2025.
Initiated in October 2023, the partnership integrates blockchain technology into supplier management, enabling automated data sharing and immutable record-keeping.
