Sustainability – The Business Case
An article in the April 2024 edition of this newsletter examined the drivers to sustainable practices in brand protection. The aim of this article is to extend this examination into the business case for sustainability, which is more than simply being seen as a good corporate citizen.
The premise here is that while sustainability could be considered as simply another cost of doing business, there are also sound business reasons to take this route.
The implications for product quality
When considering drivers for sustainability, the environmental impact of waste materials is of obvious concern but the resulting implications for product quality are often ignored in this analysis.
In addition to having a negative financial impact, poor product quality also has an environmental impact through increased waste. As a result, there is a link in manufacturing between zero-defect production and sustainable practice that can be reflected in the business case.
Print inspection may be one technology opportunity within our industry that will benefit from a product quality/sustainability focus, and, once again, the currency domain provides an example to follow.
