Securikett’s It’s PAPER Wins FINAT Sustainability Award

The FINAT Sustainability Award has been held annually since 2014 to honour member initiatives that address environmental and social aspects of sustainability. All entries are judged by an independent jury of industry representatives. FINAT is the European association for the self-adhesive label industry.

Both converters and suppliers to the self-adhesive label industry were allowed to submit their projects and innovations in 2022 - in the Converter Small & Medium category, the It’s PAPER VOID labels and VOID tapes from Securikett (see ABN April 2022) ended up as the winner.

The award ceremony took place 23-25 November in Barcelona during the FINAT Technical Seminar 2022. Securikett’s Managing Director Gregor Kitzberger and Vanessa Mitterer, Head of Research and Development, were on-site and accepted the award together.

Just a few weeks earlier, the It’s PAPER series of paper-based security seals had already snatched the ‘Green Packaging Star Award’ from the trade magazine Kompack. Vanessa Mitterer, said: ‘this shows that years of research have paid off. Our Paper VOIDs really do work excellently and not only pass all tear tests, drop tests and aging tests well, but are even superior to their plastic counterparts with regard to manipulation tests with liquids.’

‘We are very pleased about this award because we see it as recognition for several years of research work. The requirements for our paper-based security labels were high: basically, they had to be able to do everything from the outset that we have developed over the years for our tamper-proof plastic VOID labels. The biggest challenge was to ensure that the effect that makes the word ‘VOID’ appear after peeling off, for example, is also visible with paper.’
