Liberia Begins Month-Long Workshop on Tax Stamp Implementation
At the beginning of January, the Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA), in collaboration with the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning (MFDP), began a month-long training workshop on the procedures and processes leading to the implementation of excise tax stamps on several products sold on the Liberian market, reports LRA on its Facebook page.
The workshop is sponsored by USAID through its ‘Revenue Generation, Growth and Governance’ project and aims to educate and enhance the capacity of key stakeholders – including manufacturers, importers, other tax payers, suppliers and tax practitioners – on the rules, procedures, modules and solutions to problems that may arise when dealing with goods such as alcohol, fuel and tobacco products.
LRA Assistant Customs Commissioner for Ports Operation, Edwin F Kendema, said the specially designed stamps are customised and unique to each one of the goods listed in the established regulations, and any attempts at counterfeiting or tampering can be easily detected.
